What is PR?
Updated: May 3, 2019
According to Wikipedia: Public relations is the practice of managing the spread of information between an individual or an organisation (such as a business, government agency, or a nonprofit organisation) and the public.
Imagine we are getting to know one another, we sit down for a coffee and a chat and you ask me “what do you do?”
My immediate response is “I’m the Director of The AJ Collective, a Public Relations, Communications and Creative Agency”
You smile, I see that my response has registered but does it explain enough?
Had I have said I’m a nurse or a florist there would be no real need for me to elaborate.
What I have learned is that the term PR is often thrown around a lot like confetti but most don’t really understand it.
PR Executives are like ‘commercial storytellers’, like Wikipedia says we “Manage the spread of information.”
But there is more to it...
A good publicist knows how to communicate a key message or messages to an audience they want to influence, whist building a positive public image or reputation for their client.
We have valuable connections, and relationships within the media are key to getting editorial content published and air time at next to no expense to you.
PR is vital to building your business, and engaging an external PR Agency means a fresh set of eyes on your business, stimulating new ideas, approaches and practices.
